Additional Historical Background About Me

CTO, Consultant, Entrepreneur

CTO
In 2010 and 2011 I was the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of a local start-up company called SwapBeats. There, we built a social network for musicians.

Consultant
I’ve been engaged in web design since the age of 16 and have since acquired a level of professionalism, experience and knowledge that is valuable to others in terms of development, planning, wireframing, strategizing, advice, analysis, and market research.

Entrepreneur
I always have a side project or three going on in the background. I love innovation and big-picture thinking. My latest project is a technology endeavor to link contractors with jobs in a way that has never been done before.

Web Developer and Software Engineer

Web Developer
I’m an avid Drupal developer and started my own web business when I was 16 and have been at it ever since, with over 12 years of experience. Web technologies, CSS best practices, excellent design and user experience/usability fascinate me.

Software Engineer
I’ve spent sufficient time at Estee Lauder to absorb excellent creativity and processes in innovation and site production. I also had the pleasure to work at Digital River where I acquired a solid background in enterprise-class software development practices, preceded by a great job at The Hursk Group where I learned about network and application security and honed my Perl programming skills. I try to stay actively involved in the Drupal and open source communities, writing code whenever I can, for personal or contracted projects. In 2008 I began volunteering as an organizer for the Frozen Perl conference, and have attended many YAPC::NA Perl conferences in addition to my yearly trips to Drupalcon — the national Drupal conference.

Free Education Advocate and Volunteer

Starting in the Fall of ’08 I’ve been teaching free classes on Free, Libre, Open Source Software (FLOSS) and Programming Languages through the Twin Cities Experimental College (EXCO), an organization with a mission that parallels that of the Free Software Movement by bringing free and “libre” education (rather than software) to the community.

Reconnecting with my past studies, university lab manager work, andconference presentation in the field, I team-taught a course on Biopsychology this summer (’09) through EXCO, wherein we covered principles of neuroscience and psychology through the narrative of the book A General Theory of Love.

In the summer of ’09 I began to volunteer as an organizer at the administrative level for the University of Minnesota chapter of EXCO and volunteer whatever services I can muster towards their technical needs and Drupal-based web site.

Humanist at Large

I pursue multi-lingual and musical side-interests, with an affinity towards nature, travel, running, health, friends, and fine cuisine. I try to be ethical, loving, helpful, conscious, and philosophically deliberative in every decision I make, every action I take.
